Tulip Tablerunner or Quilt

LaVonne Jackson

"I’m LaVonne Jackson, mother of 5 and grandmother of 16. I am the owner of
Sew-N-Quilt, my quilt pattern and quilt stamp design company. My love in the quilting
world is designing and piecing quilts. I own a longarm and I use it mostly for myself
and friends, but when I retire I hope to expand my skills with the long arm.
My Dad was actually the one who encouraged me to sew and got me started
tying baby quilts. He also purchased the fabric and cut out the fabric for my first
Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt over 40 years ago. I finished that and through the
following years went on to make clothes for myself and my children. Smocking was one
of the skills I learned so that I could embellish the cute dresses I made. Through the
years I made many cute dresses and baby quilts for friends, family and co-workers that
were expecting.
When my children were leaving the nest I went on to get a degree in architectural
drafting with an emphasis in homes and interior design. I have designed, built and
remodeled many homes. As I continued with my quilting I loved the look of EPP
(English paper piecing) and dabbled in it but did not like the hand sewing. I found the
hand quilting tedious and time consuming. Through that experience I used my drafting
program to design a product I call quilt stamps. The quilt stamps stamp ink on the back
of the fabric with the sewing lines. This allows the quilter to sew on the sewing machine
and make a quilt that looks like EPP.
For me designing homes and designing quilts makes me happy. To be able to
design these on paper and then build them and watch them take shape is exciting and
gives me a sense of accomplishment. I love to teach and share this with others so that
they may have that same feeling of achievement. I have been teaching my skills for
many years and 5 years specifically at quilt retreats. Teaching: Milefiori, Tulip Tablerunner or Quilt, Patchwork Crosses"
